Automation is the utilization of automatic facilities in a manufacturing procedure or other processes or facilities. When the automation is done, most of the machines and processes operated by little or no human manual control to perform work without the aid of people, but the need for human surveillance is still needed for the automation processes.

Types of Automation Applications

Automation or automatic working pattern are the utilization of various controlling systems for operating equipment such as processes in factories, machinery, switching on telephone networks, boilers and heat treating ovens, aircraft and other applications and vehicles, or steering and stabilization of ships with minimum or at least the reduced human power. Therefore, when automation is going, this technology means a process or procedure is conducted with the minimum human involvement, realizing better cost effective ratio by making redundant power resources for other tasks.


Applications of Automation

Industrial Usages in Grinding

Grinding is also a sector that needs a lot of automated processes to be achieved on the production lines just like the turning processes does. In regard to the mechanical composition, the mechanical structures of surface grinders are composed of an abrasive wheel, a work piece holding device, and a reciprocating table. The coordination of these three can make them into one well coordinated working process that can replace traditional human grinding workers. During the grinding machining, the holding device holds the material in place while it is being machined.

The clamping mechanism of the work piece can be done via two methods: one is for the ferromagnetic pieces, which are held in place by a magnetic chuck, while for the non-ferromagnetic and nonmetallic pieces, they are held in place by either vacuum or mechanical means in order to avoid the scratches or even more serious damages to the work pieces. The clamping mechanism is crucial to the whole processing of automatic surface grinders, since only with the rigid positioning and clamping, can the work be achieved in ideal circumstances.
