It is a type of machining that utilizes an abrasive wheel as the cutting tool. A small chip from the workpiece is cut by each grain of abrasive on the wheel’s surface through shear deformation.

The speed is determined by the manufacturer’s rating and the diameter of the wheel. The grinding head can travel across a fixed length of the workpiece, or the workpiece can be maneuvered while the grinding head stays in place.

Rubber roll grinding machine has overcome the downsides of low output, high labor intensity, inability to deal with tire rubber and other kinds of waste rubber (such as bicycle tires, tractors, etc.) by combing the principle of grinding and shearing under high pressure, which is capable of effectively controlling the ground temperature. To ensure the quality of rubber powders, the crushing fineness can go as high as 5-100 mesh, and each unit can produce 2 tons of rubber powder per day.

Configuration and Construction of Rubber Roll Grinder

Rubber roll grinding machine is a specialized machine tool ideal for working with all kinds of small rubber material in the market. The configuration of a rubber roll grinding machine is essentially comprised of a crusher, a blower, a pulverizer, automatic feeding mechanism, automatic convey mechanism, automatic grinding, automatic screening, automatic collecting mechanism (also referred to as the whirlwind collecting), water cooling mechanism, driving system, electrical control system, and automatic dust removal.

In terms of the external construction, the rubber roll grinding machine consists of a bed with a fixture to guide and clamp the workpiece in place, as well as a grinding wheel spinning at the required speed, driven by the main motor for grinding. Also, every grinder should also include the frame, step-less variable speed motor for rubber feeding, speed-reducing mechanism coupled with grinding discs (a static grinding disc and a moving grinding disc).

Machining Principle of Rubber Roll Grinder

Rubber roll grinding machines work by using the relative motion of two grinding discs, along with the shearing and grinding material to obtain a superfine powder. The grinding temperature is controlled effectively by the coolant (refer to the next section), ensuring the quality and output of superfine rubber powder.

As mentioned above, the feeding mechanism of the rubber roll grinder adopts step-less variable speed. The feeding speed can vary based on the different materials, enabling you to obtain the optimal result through a whirlwind collecting mechanism.

Moreover, as the rubber crumb is fed to the material hopper, the feeding screw will send the material forward and through the middle channel of the fixed grinder to the gap between the rotating grinding disc and the fixed grinding disc. This will put both discs in motion as the ground materials are collected by a whirlwind collecting machine and fed to the centrifugal screen.

As a result, the formed centrifugal force will push qualified superfine rubber powder out of the screen holes and are collected by another whirlwind collection machine and fed to the bag. The unqualified material will be screened out so that the grinder can continue to undergo the grinding process.

The Cooling Mechanism of Rubber Roll Grinder

Rubber roll grinding machines remove rubber material from the workpiece by abrasion, which can generate significant amounts of heat. To prevent the workpiece from overheating and going beyond its tolerance, rubber roll grinding machines typically incorporate a coolant that cools off the workpiece.

The coolant also benefits the operators in a way that it protects them from burns potentially. For high-end rubber roll grinders that require higher precision, the final grinding stages are usually set up in a way that very little heat is generated even without coolant, making the rise in temperature obsolete.

Application of Rubber Roll Grinder

The primary purpose of a rubber roll grinding machine is to produce rubber powder. Quality rubber roll grinding machines are typically capable of producing at least 5-40 mesh rubber powder, as well as screening out some 40-120 mesh superfine rubber powder. The rule of thumb is that if you want to acquire more superfine rubber powder as a result, you will need a rubber roll grinding machine that is capable of grinding the respective amounts of rubber crumb in correlation to the superfine rubber powder.
