3Band saw and circular saw are different in nature
As the section title has suggested, there are two kinds of sawing machines in the industrial market: band sawing machine and circular sawing machine. This kind of classification makes perfect sense because the two are different.
Unlike band sawing machine, circular sawing machine utilizes spinning circular tools to process sawing procedure rather than sawing bands to achieve the cutting mechanism, which leads to other machining features that is different from band sawing method. On the other hand, a band saw is also called as bandsaw, which is a power-driven sawing machine with a long and sharp blades consisting of a continuous band of toothed metal stretched.
Both circular and band sawing nowadays are mostly driven by electricity, while in the ancient days, sawing force was applied mainly by human hands, or later it may be powered by natural generations such as steam and water. After the technology evolution, sawing power can be electricity or other power sources. Besides traditional sawing, there is another kind of saw named abrasive saw, which has a powered circular blade that is designed to cut through metal or ceramic. In the market, a band sawing machine is used particularly in metalworking, woodworking, and lumbering, but can also be used to cut a variety of other materials.
The primary advantages of band saw machines include uniform cutting movement as a result of an evenly distributed tooth loads, and the capability to cut irregular or curved shapes like a jigsaw. Accordingly, with these two kinds of sawing methodology, there evolve two kinds of sawing machines that people use nowadays. The conventional one evolves into band sawing machine while the abrasive counterparts evolve into circular sawing method and the corresponding facility, or formally stated as circular sawing machine.
Since the invention and application exist, it is a general question that is repeatedly asked: Shall onsite operators choose a band saw or a circular saw instead? Practically speaking, it shall be based on what and how a work piece is going to be cut and to be used.
It is obvious that making a wrong choice would cause compromise of productivity and the plants’ long term development would face severe difficulties. Now, band sawing machines are widely applied in a wide variety of applications. Regarding the major applications, a band sawing machine is used particularly in metalworking, woodworking, and lumbering sectors, but can also be used to cut a variety of other materials. If one compared band sawing with circular sawing, the primary advantages of band saw machines include uniform cutting movement as a result of an evenly distributed tooth loads, and the capability to cut irregular or curved shapes like a jigsaw.
Industrial manufacturers with mass-productive manufacturing model who ask for high-volume, would probably chose circular cold saws as the best option. On the other side, if the tolerance was not that recognized by the production line, then band saws with fewer prices may be enough.
Due to the advancement in technology, now the choice between circular saw and band saw is rather ambiguous. While the choice may be rather relative, there are still some conditions and circumstances. The blade of a band saw machine can come in a variety of tooth pitches and size scales, which enables the band saw machines to be with high versatility, and be able to cut a broad variety of raw materials such as wood, metal and plastics. Almost all band saws nowadays are powered by at least an electric motor while line shaft versions were once common in the application.
Unlike the case of circular sawing process, a band sawing machine is utilized particularly in metalworking, woodworking, and lumbering, and horizontal band saws have the work piece clamped while the sawing blade swings down through the cutting.
