Domestic Pump Types And Purchase Considerations

Posted on Sep 1, 2020

A domestic water pump is a pumping system that increases the pressure and flow of water in your home or garden. These small, modern pumping systems are easy to install, can be installed in just one day, and will make a difference every time water is needed. Many of us take the water pressure in our homes for granted, but our climate is changing rapidly.

Due to climate change, many countries are facing water shortages. Countries do have reservoirs and dams to store water, but the duration is not long enough to maintain the next monsoon. Another source of water resources is groundwater, which has recently become very important. We use domestic pumps to draw water from the ground, so we can use it for drinking water, agriculture, and domestic use. In this article, we will teach you about domestic pump types and talk about considerations when buying a domestic pump.

Different Types of Domestic Water Pump

When it comes to pump types, there are mainly two types, namely domestic water pumps, and agricultural water pumps. These two types are further divided into conventional pumps, irrigation pumps, centrifugal pumps, submersible pumps, etc. We use domestic water pumps for domestic water. These purposes are to supply water to our houses. This type of hydraulic power is not very strong, because we do not need a lot of power to transport water to our houses. On the other hand, agricultural pumps are very powerful and are the main source of irrigation in rural areas. The main application of this type is to irrigate agricultural land.

Bellow you can see the most common categories of domestic pumps:

• Centrifugal Pumps

This type of domestic pump uses centrifugal force to pump water out and is mostly driven by an electric motor. The centrifugal pump in the jet engine runs on the same mechanism. However, the water pump only pumps out the water sucked in from the water to improve efficiency. This type of domestic pump transfers clean water without impurities. Therefore, they are mainly used to supply water to the home, drain water tanks, fill swimming pools, and irrigate gardens. Compared with regenerative pumps, they are very efficient.

• Submersible Pumps

The second type of domestic pump is a submersible, a submersible, and a submersible. The pump motor is hidden and is mainly used in boreholes and boreholes. Since they are already in the water, there is no need to infuse them. Also, it also has two types: tube well submersible pump and well submersible pump.

• Borewell Compressor Pumps

This type is designed to pump water from a well with a depth of 650 feet. It uses air pressure to suck water from the top of the wellbore where there is less water. Other types are belt drive and Monoblock.

• Pressure Booster Pumps

This type of pump is engineered to increase the water pressure. This is why they are used primarily in domestics which increase water pressure. Where the water pressure is too low we need to mount them. The pressure tank is attached to the water supply unit to provide continuous pressure on all drains, making it best suitable for suburban areas. Choosing the most suitable domestic pump model for your application is very critical because you want to use the right size pump to do the job. Next, we need to analyze two crucial variables-the the pump flow rate needed and the pressure necessary.

How much Flow Rate will be required?

Calculate the number of taps or taps (internal and external) that may be open at the same time. Remember that different faucets/outlets have different flow rates, such as 6 L/min for each bathroom, 10 L/min for each shower, 15 L/min for each faucet, etc. Once the required flow rate is determined, it is necessary to calculate how much pressure is required.

Which type of domestic pump should I go for?

There are several options for domestic pumps-multi-stage / jet / variable speed / submersible, etc. A brief introduction to each pump will help you determine which type is right for your application

• Multi-stage domestic water pump

This type of pump is the most popular because it provides a lot of pressure and flow for domestic applications and is very efficient. They are ideal for large and medium-sized domestics and long-term pipelines

• Domestic jet pump

The jet pump is self-priming, which is very suitable for long-term and difficult suction applications, such as pumping from dams or creeks. The efficiency is lower, but the ability to handle air is better than other domestic pumps

• Variable speed pump

This type of pump is the latest. The pump adopts its new technology, which combines different types of domestic pumps with variable speed motors. This is by far the most efficient and energy-saving type on the market. The variable-speed motor only runs at the required speed when pumping to save electricity bills

• Submersible domestic pump

The pump can be placed in the tank or the wellbore. Most available models are multi-stage pumps because they need to provide good pressure to pump directly up before pumping the house.

How much pressure does my domestic pump need?

The appropriate pressure we recommend is 300 kpa or 42 psi working pressure. This means that the required flow is under pressure. The rule of thumb is to increase the required pressure by 10%, but if you have a lot of small pipes or long, you need more. For most single-story buildings, domestic pumps up to 300 kpa are sufficient pressure. When long-distance pipelines have been installed or pumps are required for multi-story buildings, the maximum pressure requirement is 500 kpa.

What type of controller should my domestic pump have?

So far, automatic constant voltage controllers are the most popular, each manufacturer has its own type, but they all do the same job-provide constant voltage and dry protection. Another type of controller is a combination of a pressure switch and water tank. They work together to provide an automatic pressure system, but if the water tank is installed on or next to the pump, the pump will not open the tank until the water is discharged from the pressure. This means that the starting frequency of the pump is not as high as the constant pressure control pump. Therefore, if you want to wash your hands from the basin, the pump with the pressure tank will first use the water in the pressure tank, instead of starting the pump until the water in the pressure tank is drained.
