The bend die, also known as the bend form, or radius die, is used to form the configuration of the pipe. The bend die determines the form of the pipe, and thus there would be a variety of forms of the bend dies provided, so as to accommodate the requirements of the final products. The bend die is the most vital component in the electric pipe bending machine since whether the choice of the bend die is appropriate or not may result in the success or failure of the pipe bending work.

The wiper die is mounted beside the bend die, which is used to conduct the next step after the bending of the pipe. It prevents the inside radius of the pipe that is bent from occurring wrinkles or humps or plays the role in smoothing the surface of the inside radius of the pipe. The wiper die can be made of steel or aluminum. The former is applied for pipes that are made of copper, aluminum, or bronze, while the latter serves for the pipes that are made of stainless steel, titanium, or Inconel.

When the bending of the pipe is conducted, the mandrel would be set on the inside radius of the pipes, which acts as the assistance for equally controlling the thickness of the inside wall and the outside wall of the pipes. If there is no mandrel on the electric pipe bending machine, after the pipe is bent, the outside radius of the pipe would become thinner, which may result in collapsing as the curve of the bend becomes more obvious. There are various materials that can be used to produce mandrels, such as steel, chrome, aluminum, or bronze, which allow these mandrels to be applied for the pipes that are made of steel, copper, aluminum, bronze, stainless steel, titanium, or Inconel.

The clamp die, as the name implies, is used to clamp the pipe that is supposed to be bent, in order to hold the pipe in place and prevent it from slipping off.

The pressure die works after the clamp die grips the pipe, which provides pressure to push the pipe to the bend die for the following bending work.

Applications of an Electric Pipe Bending Machine

Since the electric pipe bending machine is capable of bending the pipes that are made of a variety of metals, such as stainless steel, aluminum, copper, titanium, bronze, or Inconel, etc., the applications of this machine are as many as well. What to Consider When Using the Electric Pipe Bending Machine?

When using the electric pipe bending machine, there are some factors to be considered, since these factors may influence the success or failure of the bending work. This requires some calculations, which have something to do with the materials that are supposed to be bent. One of them is about the yield strength and the tensile strength of the material. For the machining of the metal, the yield strength, which is how much bending force that the metal is able to withstand, and the tensile strength, which is the maximum pressure that the metal can receive when being bent before breaking.

When comparing these two factors, we can get the elongation value of the material. The bigger the variation between the yield strength and the tensile strength, the larger the number of the elongation value. If the elongation value of a material is big, it means that the radius of the pipe that the electric pipe bending machine can bend can be at a wider range. Therefore, when using the electric pipe bending machine, in addition to choosing the right bend die for the required geometry of the final product, choosing the material that meets the standard about what the machine is capable of achieving is another important thing to be considered as well.
