Why We Need a Commercial Booster Pump?

Commercial booster pump

A commercial booster pump, also known as a commercial water pressure booster pump, is a type of commercial water pump that is used for increasing the water pressure for commercial purposes.

What Is a Commercial Booster Pump?

A commercial booster pump, also known as a commercial water pressure booster pump, is a type of commercial water pump that is used for increasing the water pressure for commercial purposes. This means the water that comes out from the taps in the commercial fields would be stronger columns after applying the commercial booster pump.

In the applications that are related to water, the terms water flow and water pressure are usually heard. They are both important factors in the effectiveness of the water supply system, while they are different things in the principles instead.

Water flow refers to the amount of water that the plumbing is capable of providing to the applications. The larger the amount of water that the receivers can get at once, the higher the flow rate. In contrast, if the receivers only get some droplets of water, it means the flow rate is low.

As for the water pressure, it refers to the strength of the water that comes out from the taps. This is related to the velocity of the flowing of water. In other words, how fast the water is able to come out in a period of time determines how strong the water pressure is.

For domestic purposes, which are the applications such as the showerhead or the faucet on the kitchen counter, a booster pump is rarely required. Since the distance that water has to pass from the water supply to its applications is not that long, which means the pressure of water that is delivered from the water tank is enough for domestic usage.

In comparison, for the commercial purposes, such as the drinking water in the school, the water supply in the hotels or the swimming pools, the irrigation in the agricultural fields, these applications of water require more amount of the water source, and takes longer to serve the water to the users.

Since the demand for water and the areas that water has to be served for are bigger in the commercial fields than in the users' own homes, the commercial booster pump is needed to be applied. With a commercial booster pump, sufficient pressure and amount of water can be ensured to provide for the users or customers to use.

Commercial Booster Pump vs. Domestic Booster Pump

The booster pumps can serve as the lifesaver for the users who always get droplets of water when water is in need, and the applications can range from the industrial, commercial, and domestic fields, etc.

No matter for any one of the fields, they are all called booster pumps. While each one of them is different from the others may cause confusion for some people. In fact, among all of the booster pumps that are applied in various fields, the variations are the most obvious if comparing the commercial booster pump and the domestic booster pump.

● the usage

This allows people to tell simply from the names of booster pumps. One is for the commercial fields such as schools, hotels, or swimming pools, to name a few. The other is for the applications at home, such as the faucets on the kitchen counter or the toilet, or the showerhead, etc.

From the difference in the usage between these two types of booster pumps, we can get that the amount of water that is required in each type is different, and so does the horsepower of the booster pumps.

For more demand of water as in the commercial booster pumps, the horsepower of the pumps should be stronger than in the domestic booster pumps, where the demand for water is relatively less.

● installation requirements

Given that the demand for water is totally different in the commercial and the domestic fields, the plumbing structure of each field is different as well. In the users’ own homes, the plumbing structure would be relatively simple and straightforward; the distance that the water should be delivered is shorter.

In contrast, in the commercial field, the plumbing system would be more sophisticated, as it should cover extensive areas where the water should be delivered to. Therefore, the installation of the commercial booster pumps would be more complex than that of the domestic booster pump as well.

● booster pump types

Both the commercial booster pump and the domestic booster pump are centrifugal pumps, which utilize the centrifugal force that is produced by the rotating of the impellers to facilitate the flowing of water and increases the pressure of water by making water crush to the volute or diffuser casing.

However, the commercial booster pump and the domestic booster pump differ in the construction inside the centrifugal pumps. The centrifugal pump that the commercial booster pump applies is a multistage pump, which consists of multiple impellers and diffusers that cover around the impellers. Through the interaction of the water and the rotating impellers and diffusers, the water pressure can be increased gradually to the required degree.

While the domestic booster pump usually applies the centrifugal pump with a single impeller in combination with the volute as the casing around it. As the degree of the water pressure that should be increased in the domestic field is lower than the commercial field, and thus the impeller that the domestic booster pump needs to boost the pressure is relatively less.

How to Choose the Best Commercial Booster Pump?

● material

Since the structure and the installation of the commercial booster pumps are sophisticated as the complex structure of the plumbing systems, the users or the owners of the commercial fields don’t want to repair the commercial booster pump often, and it is hard to do so.

In addition, the wear and tear of the commercial booster pump would accelerate the requirement of repairing. Therefore, when choosing the commercial booster pumps, the material of the pump should be corrosion resistant, so that the durability of the pump can be longer.

● self-priming

Most of the booster pumps are equipped with the function of self-priming, which means that the booster pumps can work and maintain continuous duty without external or other manual assistance. This may bring the users or the owners with better convenience.

● horsepower

As a large amount of water demand in the commercial fields, the horsepower that the commercial booster pumps have should be strong enough so as to withstand the requirement of boosting water pressure.

Thus, you can choose the commercial booster pump with sufficient horsepower by estimating how strong the water pressure the applications need beforehand, as different places may require different water pressure.

● adjustable speed

A commercial booster pump with adjustable speed can benefit the users or the owners of the commercial fields, since the requirement of the water pressure may be higher in the rush hour or lower during the break time of the store, for example.

In order to make good use of the commercial booster pump to prolong the durability time it, or reduce the cost on the electricity bill, the commercial booster pump with an adjustable speed system would be a better choice for the commercial fields.
