For professional use, a multi-stage centrifugal pump with two or more impellers has been developed. Depending on the brand and design differences, the impeller may be installed on the same or different shafts. If high pressure needs to be applied at the outlet, the impeller can be connected in series, and when high flow output is required, the impeller is usually connected in parallel.
 
In the structure of the pump, it is more economical to use a multi-stage centrifugal pump to generate high pressure on a common shaft in the same casing as compared to a pump using only one impeller. Water enters the pump and flows from left to right sequentially through multiple impellers. From there, water flows around the impeller to the suction port of the next impeller.

Differences

Pumps are typically operated by either reciprocating or rotary mechanisms, and consume energy to perform mechanical work that moves the fluid, thereby improving liquid delivery performance.

Booster pumps

Booster pumps powered by compressed air are usually linear actuation systems in which a pneumatic cylinder directly drives the compression piston in a housing, which is separated by a sealing unit. The high-pressure pneumatic drive can use the same pressure as the output pressure to drive the piston, while the low-pressure drive will use a larger diameter piston to multiply the applied force.
 
In terms of their use, they are mainly used for commercial applications such as water heater pressurization, high-rise low water pressure, sauna, bathroom pressurization, insufficient pressure on the top of the apartment, solar automatic pressure increase, reverse osmosis water purifier pressure increase, etc.
 
About the working mechanism of booster pump, first fill the booster pump with liquid, and then start the centrifugal pump. When the impeller rotates rapidly, the blades of the impeller drive the liquid to rotate and flow to the outer edge of the impeller. On the impeller side, the liquid flows around the blade and exerts pressure on the blade. The blade reacts into the liquid and then acts in the opposite direction, or say phase. The kinetic energy and pressure of the liquid will increase normally during this cycle.

The structure of the centrifugal pump is much more complex in nature. When a problem occurs, it is often difficult to repair or even achieve regular maintenance. Therefore, the maintenance possibilities of centrifugal pumps are always very important for users and pump suppliers.
