Rotary Positioner Table

Introduction of Rotary Positioner Table

Rotary positioner table is an accessory that helps the craftsmen to position the workpieces they are working with. Since the table can be rotated easily without any blind angle, it can provide a 360-degree whole view of the workpieces which would help a lot in accuracy and increase the yield. The rotating speed is adjustable that the users can pick up the proper speed for the machining progression. The rotary positioner table has almost no blind angle so that they can be rotated not only horizontal but also leaned to both sides. It would ensure that the craftsmen can see the whole view of the workpieces they are dealing with and can adjust the parts they think are not good enough.

Rotary positioner tables can be built in forms and used in various ways. Speaking to the most common forms, the one with big round rotary plates is the most popular type. Among all industrial tasks, these useful tables are mostly used to assist welding works, sometimes milling works. Sizes of the rotary positioner table are various, from the small designs that can be screwed on the table, to the large ones which need a space to locate can be found on the market. Although it is not absolute, most of the time the size of the rotary positioner table is equal to how much weight it can bear.

Structure of the Rotary Positioner Table

Rotary positioner tables are constructed by a rotary table, usually in a round shape plate, a motor for driving the round plate, a stable base, the controller with buttons, and several gears with different functions.

● Rotary Table

The rotary table can be rotated freely no matter clockwise or counterclockwise. On the rotary table, there would be some holes or fillisters which are used to fasten the workpieces for machining on the rotary table. Thus, the workpieces would not shake or even fall from the device while working and the craftsmen can work on it more easily and accurately.

● Motors

The motor is used to drive the round plate to rotate. Usually, the DC motors would be selected to be responsible for this task.

● Base

Since the base would need to bear the weight of the rotary table and the workpieces, it should be solid and stable with excellent weight capability. To fulfill the conditions, the base of the rotary positioner table is usually designed heavily. When it comes to the forms which are working with heavy duty workpieces, the base would also be designed huge to bear larger weights.

● Controller

This part is used to control the motion of the rotary table, usually with several buttons on it for controlling the speed and rotating direction of the device. In some designs, the controller would be alternative to CNC systems.

Build a Simple Rotary Positioner Table on Your Own

Building a rotary positioner table with simple structure would not be difficult for even a small factory with simple tools. Forms and types would be various depending on the designers’ ideas. However, there are some features that a qualified rotary positioner table must have:

● Rotatable

This is the most important feature of a rotary positioner table. By the use of proper parts with accuracy, the rotary table should move smoothly with the required speed.

● Stability

This is mostly but not only talking about the base. It is common sense that the base of a rotary positioner table should be stable because it needs to bear the whole weight of the machine and the workpieces on the table.

Another part that should contain stability is the rotary table because it is adjustable but should have the ability to stable the workpieces on it. Therefore, when the table reaches the required angle, it should stay there without shaking or even flipping accidents.

● Good Weight Bearing Ability

This is an important feature that the base should have since it needs to bear the whole weight of the machine and the workpieces on it.

● Easy to Use

The structure of the assist equipment is simple so it should theoretically not be difficult to use. As an assist equipment, the rotary positioner table should not be too complex to use because it would make the machining progression longer and then decrease the productivity while the producing cost increases. If this occurs, the equipment will lose its value as a helper.

Here are steps for building a simple rotary positioner table:

1. Machining the foot stools or base.

In the very beginning, the base should be built the first because all the parts should be put on it to measure the right size and weight.

2. Set the motor.

It is suggested to use a DC motor.

3. Place the rotary table on.

The rotary table should be done with required holes or fillisters. While installing the rotary table, remember not to weld it fixed since it should be rotated.

4. Install electrical controlling panel.

Usually, the controlling panel would be designed with several buttons controlling the rotating direction of the rotary table. The controlling panel would be linked to the rotary table and powers the rotary table by electricity or pneumatic power.
