Stainless steel is a kind of iron-based alloy which is primarily made from iron. Then, metals that contain rusting prevention function would be added, for example, nitrogen, aluminium, silicon, sulfur, titanium, nickel, copper, selenium, niobium, molybdenum, carbon, or other metals that can prevent rusting. However, the metals above would not be added to stainless steel in one time. Different types of stainless steel include the elements. Specific types of stainless steel are often designated by a three-digit number. For instance, 304 stainless – the most commonly used stainless steel. This kind of alloy has the biggest advantage of not getting rusty. Therefore, it is now used almost everywhere in every industry, especially the medical instrument manufacture industry.
Stainless steel sheets, also called stainless steel sheet metal, are made of stainless. Because of their excellent features, they are versatile that can be used in various industries. Usually, we call the stainless steel “sheet” only when it is thinner than 6 millimeters. When the product is over 6 millimeters, we call it a stainless steel plate. The biggest advantage of stainless steel sheets is lightweight. However, as they are thinner, the strength would not be enough to support important parts that might be related to safety. Therefore, they are usually used in products that might not require a long lifespan such as decorations.
In the first section, we have discussed the features of stainless steel. But here comes the biggest question: how strong is stainless steel? Would it be weak and easy to break? In fact, it is stronger than iron. As we know, iron would get rusty when in contact with oxygen. Therefore, it is unavoidable for iron products to ruin when time goes long. However, this would not happen on products made of stainless sheet metals. Because the chromium inside the stainless sheet metal forms a shield to protect other materials underside from being corroded and then crush one day. Moreover, the element chromium is able to self-heal in the presence of oxygen. Besides, the nitrogen in it also improves resistance to pitting corrosion and increases mechanical strength.

Moreover, the melting point of stainless steel is extremely high (about or over 625 degrees Celsius). Therefore, products made of stainless steel usually have a longer lifespan and are preferred by various industries.
Since its strength and features of not getting rusty, stainless steel sheet metal is recognized as long-lasting and safe. Therefore, they are used in various industries as outlined below:
● Construction Industry
Stainless steel appears in many kinds of forms like plates, sheets, or pillars. Some of them are the principal parts of a building while some of them are just decorations. Moreover, since its features of stainless and long lifespan, stainless steel sheet metal is also be used to build roofs. There is a form of roof called the tin house or iron-roofed house. It is pretty common in Taiwan. Although the name contains other kinds of metals, most of them are actually made of stainless steel plates.
● Machine Tool Manufacturers
Stainless steel sheets would not be ruined when time passes by. When speaking to the raw material of the machine tool, the stainless sheet would be a good choice. Since its long lifespan and the solution to rusty problems, stainless steel sheets are welcome by machine tool manufacturers.
● Medical Instrument and Equipment Manufacturers
As we know, medical instruments should be clean and germ-free. Therefore, they are either disposed or easy to clean. Moreover, there should not be any impurities stick on them. Since the surface of stainless steel can be smooth, stainless steel sheets are easy to clean. Moreover, since they are stainless and strong enough that is not easy to break, it is nearly impossible for stainless steel to produce impurities. Thus, many medical instruments such as scalpels and plates that used in surgery are usually made of stainless steel sheets.
● Factories Producing Decorations
The melting points of stainless steel is extremely high (above 625 degrees Celsius) that we are impossible to encounter in our ordinary life. Moreover, stainless steels have a long lifespan. Besides, they can be shinny as a mirror or dim as a mystery. Because of their features and variety, stainless steel sheets are good material to make decorations.
● Factories Producing Family Supplies
Stainless steel sheets are mostly used to produce food and beverage containers or cookers, especially the number of 304 and 316.
