Due to the changes in business models, custom-made mechanical units are common in the modern market. Valves have been widely implemented in our daily life. In the plumbing and tube sector, valves are generally considered devices that regulate, guide or control the flow of fluids by opening, closing, or partially blocking various channels of fluids.
Generally, valves are accessories in any structure, but due to their complex and diverse types and applications, they are usually discussed as a separate category. Valves can be custom-made. The customized valves are designed and constructed based on specific requirements. That said, the customized valves still follow the basic working principle and mechanism of the regular valves to function.
In the case of an open valve, fluid flows from high pressure to low pressure. The simplest and oldest valve is just a freely hinged flap that drops to prevent fluid flow in a certain direction. The valve with this function is called a check valve. Modern control valves or other types of customized valves can regulate downstream pressure or flow and achieve multiple purposes under the control of an automated system.
The most common type of valve consists of two key parts: the valve body and the bonnet. The valve body is a casing containing the fluid flowing through the valve. It is usually made of metal or plastic, and the structure is strong and firm. Metal materials include brass, bronze, gunmetal, cast iron, steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel. The valve cover is screwed into the casing and passes through the valve stem as a guide and seal for the valve stem.
In some special environments, such as seawater desalination plants, it often applies duplex valves or super duplex valves. In order to respond to changes in seawater temperature and complex compositions, materials with corrosion resistance must be used to make the valve body.
The procedure of assembling the valve is to put the internal parts into the valve body and then install the bonnet to fix all the internal components together. Some valves do not include a bonnet but are combined together in different ways, such as plug valves and ball valves.
Comparison with pumps
Valves and pumps are two interactive fluid control devices in use. A pump is a device that moves liquids through their mechanical design and is used in commercial applications. According to the methods of pumps used to move fluids, pumps can be divided into three main models; the three methods are direct lift, displacement, and gravity. That is, there are direct lift pumps, displacement pumps, and gravity pumps respectively.
Pumps are typically operated by either reciprocating or rotary mechanisms, and consume energy to perform mechanical work that moves the fluid, thereby improving liquid delivery performance. In practical, mechanical pumps can also be classified by their discharge way into positive displacement pumps, impulse pumps, velocity pumps, gravity pumps, steam pumps, and valve-less pumps. The two basic types of pumps are positive displacement and centrifugal.
Pumps can be operated by many power sources, such as manual operation by field operators, by electricity or engines, or even by sustainable energy sources such as wind energy. These energy sources can be used in a variety of equipment, ranging in size from a microscope for medical use to large industrial pumps in waterworks, or small industrial pumps that transfer cutting fluids for machining.
Pumps have a wide range of applications, such as pumping water from conventional wells, aquarium filtration work, pond filtration tasks, water cooling, and fuel injection in the automotive industry, pumping oil and natural gas in the energy industry, or cooling operation of the tower.
In the field of machine tools, pumps are used to deliver cutting fluids and coolants. In the medical field, pumps are used in developing and manufacturing drugs, and even for artificial substitutes for human body parts like artificial hearts.
In various industries, users' demand for customization has been widely proven. What the customer needs is often different from what the supplier wants to promote. Therefore, customized valves are a great opportunity for suppliers on the market because after all, the application determines the style and function of the valve.
The development and research of valve units have recently become very popular in the pneumatic and hydraulic fields because they can be widely used for various purposes in household and industrial purposes. It is recognized that through various designs on the valve unit, one can use the valve unit to accomplish many things to control many kinds of liquid substances, thereby realizing the idea of intelligent management.
