Sanitary Ball Valve

Introduction of Sanitary Ball Valve

Sanitary ball valve is a combination of ball valve and sanitary valve. Ball valve is a kind of valve that use a hollow round part to control the liquid flow.

Sanitary valves are a kind of valves that meet a sanitary standard, either medical use standard or food standard. Usually, sanitary valves are used in industries that requires clean or sterile processing.

To meet medical standard or food standard, it is necessary to be clean, no stains and toxic chemicals occur or produced, and not easy to be attached by germs or dirty stuffs. Therefore, sanitary ball valves manufacturers usually make them by stainless steel which can guarantee those necessary requirements.

Same as the ball valve, inside the sanitary ball valve, there is a sphere part which controls the liquid flow through the valve. The sphere part has a hole in the middle and the whole sphere part is spinnable.

Whether the valve should be opened or closed are controlled by the valve handle.

When the valve is opened, that means it links the two sides inside a tube with the hollow surface. Thus, the liquid would be able to flow through the tube and go to the place it should go.

On the other hand, when the valve is turned 90 degree, the surface without any holes will stock both sides of the tube and stop the liquid flow.

Application of Sanitary Ball Valve

Sanitary ball valve is usually applied in the industries that requires clean or sterile processing. In other words, the surface of the sanitary ball valve should not be crevices or cavities that can trap media which bacteria can feed on and multiply. Moreover, they should also be toxic-free because they are used in food processing industries.

Below are industries that might adopt sanitary ball valve during the process:
● Dairy Processing
● Food and Beverage Processing
● Brewing, Wine and Spirits Making
● Sterilizing Equipment Manufacturing
● Pharmaceutical Processing
● Medical Related Products Manufacturing
● Chemical Processing
● Fragrance and Cosmetics Making

In the industries listed above, sanitary is always the priority. Therefore, it should be necessary for them to use sanitary valves. Thus, they can guarantee that their products would be safe and clean.

Other Types of Sanitary Valve

Valves that meet medical or food standard that can be used as sanitary valves. Therefore, there would be various kinds of sanitary valves on the list below.

Each of them has their own featured working principle. However, the common point is the same, they are mainly made of clean, stainless, and toxic-freed materials. Considering about the durability, the materials is better to be metals. To meet the needs, stainless steel is usually the one to be chosen.

Below are common types of sanitary valves:

Sanitary Butterfly Valves
The working principle of sanitary butterfly valves is similar to the one works sanitary ball valves.

While the sanitary ball valves stop liquid flow by hollow ball parts, the sanitary butterfly valves use discs to stop the flow.

When using the butterfly valves, the users can spin the axis to control the flow in the tube. When the disc is parallel to the flowing direction of the liquid, the flow would be smooth and no obstacles on its way. However, when the disc becomes vertical to the flowing direction, it will totally cover the path in the tube and stop the flow before the disc.

Sanitary Check Valve
Sanitary check valves, as known as one-way valves, are able to prevent the backflow.

Inside the sanitary check valve, there is a set of spring and a valve disc. Some kinds of the sanitary check valves contain a hinge helping to stabilize the location of the valve.

The sanitary check valve can work automatically because whether the valve is opened or closed is controlled by the pressure of liquid flow.

When the liquid flow to the valve, the disc would be opened by the liquid flow pressure. On the other hand, when the liquid flow back, which would be recognized as false direction by the check valve, the check will be closed by the pressure of the liquid flows back and stop the flow.

In addition, the liquid flowing direction would be only one in the sanitary check valves.

Sanitary Diaphragm Valve
Sanitary diaphragm valve can be recognized as one kind of shut-off valves. It can stop liquid flow by directly block the liquid flow’s path.

Inside the valve, there would be a diaphragm on the upside of the tube. The material of the diaphragm should be elastic, corrosion-resistant, and non-permeable. Thus, it is usually made of plastic and rubbers.

When the liquid flow is necessary to be stop, the user can spin the handwheel to add pressure on the diaphragm and force it to extend and block the flow of the liquid inside the tube. Thus, the lower stream in the tube would be emptied since there would not be liquid pass through.

Sanitary Pressure Relief Valve
Sanitary pressure relief valve is an extended application from pressure relief valve which is able to control or limit the liquid pressure in a system. Therefore, it is also be classified into the category of safety valves.

Generally, pressure relief valves are closed. The only situation would they be opened is the pressure goes over the limit that it would need to be released.

When the valve is opened, the pressure inside the system would be released and the whole product line or even the factory would be protected from the potential exposure causes by too much pressure.
