Like the other types of vices, cross vices are used for fixing the workpieces in order to help perform a variety of other machining works. Cross vices are made as heavy and bulk enough to take up the vibration during the process of machining works. They can be used to do drilling or milling, and are more suitable to work with soft metals, such as wood, brass, or aluminum.
One of the best features of cross vices is that they can be worked in both X-axis and Y-axis. For example, you are going to draw two lines to make a right angle. You can make some mark in a raw first, then turn the paper 90 degrees. Make the other raw of marks perpendicular to the former raw, and you can start to join the marks by drawing the lines. While in the cases of machining works, you don’t need to turn the workpiece 90 degrees, you can drill holes in perpendicular lines without adjusting the angles of the workpieces with the help of cross vices, which improve the effectiveness of the process of machining works.
Also, cross vices are equipped with crank handles, which are used to rotate to pull and push the jaws of the vices. Beside the crank handles, there is a dial for you to see the graduation marks in millimeters.
To do machining works in combination with a cross vice, you can simply follow the steps here:
● Set the graduation mark to zero.
● Adjust the height of the cross vice and the other machine.
● Put the workpiece into the two jaws of the cross vice.
● Clamp the workpiece until it is tightened firmly.
● Start doing the machining with rotating the crank handles to adject the position of the workpiece.
Since a cross vice can be worked from two perpendicular directions, the application of it can be very versatile. For example, if you are making a wood with the design of irregular sides, the piece of wood should be milled from either the horizontal lines or the vertical lines on the working surface. You can easily make this workpiece as what you want by adjusting from the X-axis or Y-axis of the cross vice. In the meantime, if you keep one of the axes still and rotate the other one by the handle, a cross vice can also be worked like a machinist’s vice which is used to do the machining work by one direction. Thus, there is no doubt about the versatile application of a cross vice.
As what the above introduction has mentioned, the workpiece that is clamped by a cross vice can be worked in perpendicular directions, which allows the user of it not to adjust the workpiece in the desired direction during the machining work. Furthermore, with the graduation marks on the crank handle of each shaft, the cross vice provides the precise standard in order to make the products without deviation. This feature enhances not only the convenience for the user, but also ensures the practicality of the cross vices.
In large-scale factories that conduct machining works with a large amount of volume, the two things that they pursue is high efficiency and effectiveness. Because of the construction, cross vices can be applied to a variety of machining works. If a factory dedicates to conducting the one and only kind of machining work, cross vices are good tools for them to increase the efficiency. While if a factory aims at doing various kinds of machining works, with the application of cross vices, the high effectiveness stares them in the face.
Machining works not only require the operators to carefully adjust and operate the machines, but they also need electric power to prompt the machines to operate. For a large-scale factory, the electricity bill that spends on those machines may be very high, which would further reduce the efficiency of the machining works. However, with the improved efficiency and effectiveness by using cross vices, the cost on the electricity bill may be lowered down at the same time. Since the manufacturers dedicate to making as much profit as possible, the lowering of the cost would be the first step that they pursue. Therefore, cross vices must be the best choice on top of all types of vices.
