Rotary Shearing Mechanism

In the metal working process, rotary shearing means to shear metal sheets by the means of a rotary device that can be rotate either manually or automatically. It is important to use the shearing mechanism under certain circumstances, because the sheet metals may be of some specific ingredients or rolling conditions that does not allow them to be cut by other ways. Rotary shearing method provides another alternative measures for onsite operators of metal sheets to deal with those thin work pieces with the rotary shear treatment. Rotary shearing is coupled with the metal rolls as supportive equipment.

Rolls of sheet metals are commonly used in many industrial sectors for processing products, for paper, paint, steel, textiles, and rubber material processing. The length of the metal rolls varies from a few centimeters up to six meters or more, and throughout the length, a highly finished surface is required. In practical usages, these rolls give sheet metal work pieces the high finish, which is required without polishing or further buffing processes. If the metal rolls are designed to be used for cold forming metal materials, then the great pressure between the work and the rolls would cause the rolls to spring apart at the center. Once if the situation occurred, the rolled metal would be thicker at the center while thinner at the edges if the perfectly uniform diameter rolls were used for this purpose. Therefore, the desirable correct curve of the face of the roll needs to be carefully calculated. 

Cut to Length Lines

Cut to length line is a way of metal roll or metal coil cutting method that can make the perfect split of those sheets at a proper manner. If the metal coil is to be used later, then such arrangement may be connected to the cut to length line. In the sheet metal industry, a cut to length line is a popular method of creating flat, rectangular blanks from larger metal coils. This method is also known as a CTL or a blanking line, and many suppliers’ cut to line machine will uncoil the larger material or master coil, straighten or flatten it, and then cut it to the required length as it moves through the line, and most of all, ultimately stack it into a bundle for convenient purposes.

Because steel does not come off of a larger coil in a flat form, it needs to be stretched into flatness while on the cut to length process. And many of the cut to length line suppliers uses roller leveling technology to stretch and compress the materials, because this method increases flatness tolerance and material stability in a significant way. The ultimate use of the cut material may warrant precision cutting accuracy that meets the exact specifications for the end users across the global markets from a wide variety of industrial sectors.

Slitting of Steel Coils

Cut to length line often work with the de-coil device, and the further cut to length procedure is thus able to be automated. For this to be done, there is another famous process which can grant the de-coiled sheet an appropriate length or width, which is called the steel coil slitting line. In the metal forming industry, automatic steel coil slitting lines are widely applied in all kinds of industries for the best convenience. Coil slitting is much like roll slitting, which is a shearing operation that cuts a large roll of materials into narrower rolls for workers.

In regard to the inventory, there are two types of slitting, first is log slitting and another is the rewind slitting. Regarding the log slitting case, the roll of material is treated as a whole part and one or more slices are taken from it without an unrolling procedure. Regarding the rewind slitting case, the web is unwound and run through the machine, passing through knives or lasers, and before being rewound on one or more shafts to form the narrower rolls. In fact, the multiple narrower strips of material may be known as the multiple or pancakes if their diameter is much more than their width.

For materials of hard substances, such as sheet metal materials, blades cannot be used as the cutting tools. Rather, a modified form of shearing is utilized for specific purposes. Two cylindrical rolls with matching ribs and grooves are applied to cut a large roll into multiple narrower rolls, and this continuous production process is economic and most importantly, precise in a great extent. This is usually more precise than most other cutting processes people have. Nevertheless, the occurrence of rough edges known as burrs is commonplace on the slit edges of the work pieces.
