Cutting Tool and Accessories for Metal Working

In the machine tool industry, tools are one of the most important components for the machining. Be it a turning machine, milling machine, machine center, drilling machine, tapping machine, they all need tools to be mounted well to cut, drill, tap, or other machining movements.

The development of machining tools evolves rapidly since the early 20 century when market demands surge due to the growth of the aviation technology. Later, as milling machine was invented for further complicated machining, the issue concerning multi-tasking cutting became a focus for tool developers.

Besides the tool itself, accessories such as tool shank (tool holder), stabilizer, locknut, and spindle joints are also important to machining and the market of these products is huge especially in automotive, aerospace, household appliance, 3C electronic consumables, defense, and the power generation industries. When the work piece is targeted to be a complex profile, tool numbers installed on the turret or magazine would become a large number and the management system is then a complicated duty.

Types of Cutting Tool and Accessories for Metal Working

In the machine tool industry, tools are one of the most important components for the machining. Be it a turning machine, milling machine, machine center, drilling machine, tapping machine, they all need tools to be mounted well to cut, drill, tap, or other machining movements. The development of machining tools evolves rapidly since the early 20 century when market demands surge due to the growth of the aviation technology.

Collet Chuck

A collet chuck is a subtype of chuck that forms a collar around an object to be held (which is normally a work piece) and exerts a strong clamping force on that object when it is tightened, and the clamping mechanism is usually by a tapered outer collar. A collet chuck may be used to hold a work piece or a tool, depending on the machinery such as lathe or milling machine. An external collet is a sleeve with a cylindrical inner surface and a conical outer surface.

Drill

A drill is a machining tool that is clamped on the chuck of drilling machines for drilling purposes. On the drilling machines, each spindle will be equipped with a drill, and some drilling machine may only installed with one spindle.

For example, gang drilling machines and many screw making machines are designed with multi-spindle composition that allows for much different kind of spindles to perform so that in this case, those drilling machines contains more than one spindle and the corresponding drills are many thereafter.

End Mill

In the metalworking industry, an end mill is a type of milling cutter, which is a cutting tool utilized in industrial milling process. It is distinguished from the drill tool in the corresponding application, geometry, and production. A drill can only cut in the axial direction, while a milling bit can generally cut in all directions, though some cannot cut axially. End mills are used in milling applications for profile milling, tracer milling, face milling, and many other applications.

Tool Holders

In the machine tool industry, all kinds of machine tools would be designed and installed with at least a tool holder, or tool holders. Turning machine, milling machine, machine center, drilling machine, boring machine, and even tapping machine are all designed with tool holders and can clamp and un-clamp tools so that the worn out cutters can be replaced by the new one or be re-shaped again for future machining tasks.

Band Saws Cutting: Experience & Talks

Cutting straight, sawing tight
Many of the band sawing machinery users ever shared their experiences of band saw not cutting straight. Needless to say, there are several possibilities. Here we will address the most common reasons for a discussion. The premises is that, this discussion talks mostly about high-speed band saws such as typically used to cut insulation, and plastic with the blade speed ranging from 3000 to 8500 feet per minute, without the use of coolant. On the other hand, low speed band saws are usually utilized to cut metal with the speed ranging from 100 to 300 feet per minute, with coolant.

How Spindles Determines Your Machining Quality

In the machine tool sector, there are a very wide variety of spindle designs that is structures specifically for different kinds of processing demands. Spindle In the machine tool sector, a spindle is a rotating axis of the machinery, which often has a shaft at its center. The shaft itself is called a spindle, but also, on the market, the word often is used to refer to the entire rotary unit, including not only the shaft itself, but its bearings and anything attached to it.

Two major lathe machine categories explained. Horizontal vs. Vertical

Looking back to the production of lathe, it’s normally in a horizontal design as it is the most commonly way that people cut cylindrical work pieces. However, a vertical lathe machine is a machine tool that rotates a work piece on an axis of rotation to perform various machining operations vertically.
