Automatic Drill Press Guide

Automatic drill press is a forming machine that drills. It is called a drill press, and is used to cut holes into or through metal, wood, or other materials. This type of machine is supposed to be installed directly or using a drill chucks by onsite operators. Now almost all milling machines utilize tooling system, which is piloted on a tapered surface. These designs have greatly improved the productivity of machines due to the convenient nature during the processing which lead to shorter cycle time.

Vises and Works

Vises are commonly used in drill press and other metal works. In the metal working industry, a vise or vice is a mechanical apparatus utilized to secure a work piece object in order to allow works to be processed on it firmly. Vises have two parallel jaws, one fixed and the other movable, threaded in and out by a screw and lever. This cutting tool is held in the drill press by a chuck, or by morse taper. It is rotated and fed into the work at variable speeds.

Although wood working also uses vises, the present article only talks about metal working vises. Machine vises are mounted mostly on machining centers, drill presses, grinding machines and milling machines. While in turning machines, chuck and cylinders are the standard accessories for the similar purpose. Abrasive chop saws have a special type of machine vise built into the saw. Different from mechanical vises, there are a variety of magnetic vises that also works the same purpose to hold work pieces in order to secure the machining duties.

For work piece clamps and fixing, both magnetic and hydraulic chucks are the most important components for machine tool machining process. Magnetic chuck clamps parts of machine tool components and the parts are a huge market in the industry. In Taiwan, the export volume shares a large quantity that is not less than the export industry of the machine tool sector, contributing a large number of revenue to the economy.

Category of Vises and Components

The inventory of machine tool components are a very large category, such as vises, casted parts, spindles, motors, servo equipment, saddle, locknut, shells, hydraulic cylinders, magnetic chucks, claw, precision screws, tailstock, tools and holders, power turret, chip conveyor, belt unit, safety cover, controller, handle, display screen, just to name a few.

The chuck item will hold the material in place while it is being worked on. It can do this on two ways: ferro-magnetic pieces are held in place by a magnetic chuck, while non-ferro-magnetic and non-metallic pieces are held in place by vacuum or mechanical methods. Regarding the vise, a machine vise placed on the magnetic chuck can be used to hold non-ferro-magnetic work pieces if only a magnetic chuck is available. Influential factors to consider in surface grinding are the material of the grinding wheel and the material of the piece being worked on.

Chuck mechanism is driven by cylinders and users may observe the similarities between the chucks and vises. Spindles and chuck and the corresponding hydraulic cylinders are also well developed in Taiwan. Together with the CNC turning machine market, there are a bunch of lathe products and vise accessories that are widely spread in the world across different industrial sectors and applications.

Clamping by Vises

What is a clamping system? Clamping system and power turret are two related accessories just like chuck and cylinders. With the vertical or horizontal clamping mechanism, the automatic drill press can do the forming process with great convenience. The drilling process of a drill press is mainly used to drill or enlarge a cylindrical hole in a work piece or part. The primary operation performed on the drill press is drilling, but other possible operations also include reaming, countersinking, counter boring, and tapping. The column is the important backbone of the drill press. The design of the drill press column affects the working mechanism of it. The same goes to the column milling machines that some Y and X axis are installed on the beam and columns so that the milling can be processed with rigid force. The structure of column or columns is complicated but once it is well set, the drill press can be done in a rather faster working cycle.
