Slotted machines are also called slotting machines. This type of machine tools is designed with vertically reciprocating planning tools. The tools are used for making a mortise or shaping the sides of an aperture. Slotted machines are widely applied to a variety of applications in the industry and their simple structure makes the whole processing procedure easy and onsite operators can make many kinds of modifications onto the work pieces to adjust the working models.
The work pieces being slotted on slotting machines are normally clamped by a chuck which is installed vertically just like vertical turning machines. In conventional machine tool composition, hydraulic chucks and cylinders are the most important components for machine tool machining process. Machine tool components and parts are a huge market in the industry. In Taiwan the export volume shares a large quantity that is not less than the export market of machine tool sector, contributing a large number to the national economy.
The inventory of machine tool components are a very large category, such as casted parts, spindles, motors, servo equipment, saddle, locknut, shells, hydraulic cylinders, chucks, claw, precision screws, tailstock, tools and holders, power turret, chip conveyor, belt unit, safety cover, controller, handle, display screen, just to name a few.
The chuck item will hold the work piece material in place while it is being worked on. It can do this one of two ways: ferro-magnetic pieces are held in place by a magnetic chuck, while non-ferro-magnetic and non-metallic pieces are held in place by vacuum or mechanical methods. The cylinder often offers the hydraulic power to clamp the work piece objects firmly to ensure the working mechanism not being interrupted by some unstable and dangerous issues from happening.
Most of the slotted machines are driven by belts. The belt driven mechanism is relatively simple, and the power support of the whole slotting process depends simply on it. The working mechanism of the belts and the rotational wheel is similar to the belt driven of lathe machine belt spindles. In the old days, belt driven spindle is the only way for turning machines to work. Belt drive can be considered as the most prominent and the oldest spindle composition structure in the industrial world.
Today, machineries demanding for radial and axle machining capability, with higher rigidity and higher dynamic rotary accuracy, and belt drive spindles are an optimum option in this regard. Many belt drive power transmissions are applied to not only slotted machines but also to complicated cutting machines such as machining centers for multi-task purposes due to its easy to maintain feature that allows for subtle modifications and calibration. These efforts can be done by experienced onsite operators rather than the design engineers so that this way the working flexibility is stretched to a wider extend.
At the same time, such power driven structure would not allow for too speedy performance as well as too much torque emission. The belt has its own limitation issues, which may drop off during heavy slotting or cutting of the machinery operations. The belts are just put on the gears or wheels in the gear boxes or similar devices and the connections between the two are neither strict nor firm enough to make such a great force to be achieved and exercised.
In the machine tool considerations, most belt drive spindles are used in lathe machines, and a CNC vertical lathe machine is a machine tool that rotates a work piece on an axis of rotation to perform various machining operations such as cutting, knurling, sanding, drilling, deformation, facing, and turning; such machining are conducted with tools that are applied to the work piece and to create an object with symmetry with the axis which is driven by the primary spindle which is installed in the spindle base, near the hydraulic cylinder.
Slotted machine can work many tasks in a much cost effective way. Many manufacturers choose to use this type of machines to make great efforts of their work pieces on the chucks for a convenient way.
