Manual Cylindrical Grinder

In the metalworking industry, cylindrical grinders’ manual operation is still very popular due to many practical features. There are many types of grinding machines. Roll grinders and cylindrical grinders are very effective for many kinds of grinding processes. The roll grinder is a power grinding tool or machine tool used in the grinding process, in which the grinding wheel is used as a cutting tool for processing. And the cylindrical grinders can adopt manual or computer control operation mode.

Through the shear deformation method, each abrasive on the grinding wheel surface will cut a small piece from the work piece. The complex grinding mechanism varies depending on its design, so there are a large number of manual grinders.

Grinding Types

There are many types of grinders with manual operation that are the same as those in the CNC version. In this field, the most common types are belt grinder, bench grinder, cylindrical grinder, surface grinder, tool and cutter grinder, jig grinder, gear grinder, die grinder, angle grinder, and roll grinder, etc. cylindrical grinders operated in manual include types that use centers and the center-less.

Cylindrical grinders in manual operation can have multiple grinding wheels for different purposes. During grinding, the work piece is rotated and passed through the grinding wheel to form a cylinder. It is used to make precision rods, tubes, bearing races, bushings, and many other parts. In addition, when processing various high precision shafts, center grinding or center machining is generally adopted as the processing method. The main function of this type of machine is to grind the center of the shaft very accurately, and there is a precise circular center hole on both sides, which ensures a high repeat accuracy on the live center, thus providing excellent efficiency.

Although in most processing details, roll grinder is almost the same as cylindrical grinder whether is manual or computer controlled, there are still some key differences between the two categories. First of all, the roll grinding method was developed specifically for specific tasks such as heavy grinding. Therefore, these machines are larger in size, heavier and stronger than ordinary cylindrical grinders. Roll grinder is usually not designed for tapered grinding. Rolls are commonly used in the industrial field to process paper, paint, steel, textiles, and rubber materials.

Internal Grinding by Manual Operation

A manual cylindrical grinder is a grinding method used to shape the inner and outer diameters of a work piece. Some cylindrical grinders controlled by manual may be designed to have only the inner diameter grinding function or only the outer diameter grinding function. The cylindrical grinder can produce cylindrical work pieces of various shapes under manual or automation control, but the original work piece must have at least one central axis so that it can rotate concentrically during the machining process. This includes but is not limited to cylindrical shapes, such as cam, ellipse, crankshaft, etc. The definition of cylindrical grinding is that the machine tool must have four key movements:

First, the work piece must continuously rotate. Second, the grinding wheel must continuously rotate. Third, the grinding wheel moves forward and backward toward the work piece. Finally, move the work piece relative to the grinding wheel. Most cylindrical grinding machines use these four movements to complete the grinding process, while there are still grinding machines that use only three of them for grinding.

In the inner diameter grinding process, each abrasive particle on the surface of the grinding wheel cuts a small piece from the work piece by the shear deformation method. Due to different applications, the number of grinding machines is huge, and the classification is also very complicated. These grinding machines include belt grinder, bench grinder, cylindrical grinder, surface grinder, tool and cutter grinder, jig grinder, gear grinder, die grinder, angle grinder, and roll grinder. The cylindrical grinders under manual control may contain multiple grinding wheels for different purposes, which rotate the work piece and feed it into the grinding wheel to form a cylindrical inner diameter.

For cylindrical grinders with manual control, although their efficiency may not be as good as the CNC type, it is still very popular in the market for many reasons. Industrial users always choose cylindrical grinders designed with manual control to meet their order requirements. Some people say that there is never the best machine on the market, but there is always a suitable machine.
