Horizontal Rotary Surface Grinder Guide

Blanchard grinder is also called rotary surface grinders, and is commonly known as the Blanchard type grinders. This type of grinding machine has a grinding head that rotates the grinding wheel along the vertical axis cutting direction on the end face of the grinding wheel, while the table rotates the workpiece in the opposite direction below. This type of machine can remove large amounts of material and grind on flat surfaces with obvious spiral grinding marks. It can also be used to manufacture and sharpen metal stamping die sets, flat shear blades, fixture bases or any flat and parallel surfaces. The surface grinder can be operated manually or has CNC control.

Rotary surface grinder can be designed in horizontal structure and in vertical structure. Horizontal rotary surface grinder has horizontal arrangement of the grinding wheels, makes it possible to carry out the grinding process on some specific types of cylindrical workpieces and flat shaped workpieces in a very efficient manner. Like turning machines and milling machines, grinding wheels are tooling equipment. By horizontal phase arrangement, horizontal grinding is an indispensable function for buyers in the market.

NC Control

In the subsector of the metal grinding industry, cylindrical grinding and roll grinding are not like surface grinding, the head of the latter is lowered to the workpiece, and this grinding moves back and forth on the table under the grinding wheel. There are controllable permanent magnets for use with magnetic stock, but can have vacuum chuck or other fixtures. The most common surface grinder has a grinding wheel that rotates along a horizontal axis, and the grinding wheel cuts around the circumference of the grinding wheel.

Rotary surface grinders, commonly referred to as "Blanhard" type grinders, have a grinding head that rotates the grinding wheel on an vertical axis cutting to the end face of the grinding wheel, while the table rotates the workpiece in the opposite direction underneath. This type of machine can remove large amounts of material and grind on flat surfaces with obvious spiral grinding marks. It can also be used to make and sharpen metal stamping die sets, flat shear blades, fixture bases or any flat and parallel surfaces. Normally, there are two options of rotary surface grinder in the market, which are horizontal models and vertical model.

The vertical or horizontal surface grinder can be operated manually or has NC control. The operating system of the CNC machine tool is equipped with a humanized operation panel, which can ensure that the grinding movement is accurately displayed. The friendly human machine interface not only ensures accurate operation, but also provides great convenience for users in many different conditions of the manufacturing site. With the modern programming technology, today's grinder operators only need to call the corresponding cutting program from the machine's memory and the machine will be processed with appropriate movements.

Rotary Feature Plays an Important Functionality

Because a large number of grinding wheels are in contact with the surface of the workpiece material, horizontal rotary surface grinding is a very effective method. For each rotation of the rotary table, the entire surface to be ground is in contact with the surface of the grinding wheel. In many applications, custom options or electromagnetic, mechanical, vacuum, pneumatic or hydraulic fixtures are required. Many manufacturing teams collaborate specifically with their manufacturing or engineering team members to produce work fixtures to meet customers' manufacturing procedures and obtain repeatable quality, accuracy, and work efficiency.

Also, the chuck item will hold it in place when handling the material. It can be operated by one of the following two methods: fixing the ferromagnetic sheet in place by a magnetic chuck, and fixing the non-ferromagnetic and non-metal sheets in place by vacuum or mechanical means. Regarding the vise, if there is only an electromagnetic chuck, you can use a mechanical vise placed on the electromagnetic chuck to hold the non-ferromagnetic workpiece. The influencing factors to be considered in surface grinding are the material of the grinding wheel and the material of the workpiece to be processed.

Grinding the Future

The demand for precision workpieces is an up rising trend in the industrial and consumer markets, so it can be expected that grinding machines, especially precision grinding machines, are increasingly used in various manufacturing plants. At present, many grinders are not controlled by NC but by CNC controller or PLC system. Some grinders are still controlled by manual operation because some operating environments require manual operation. Obviously, whether it is a manual type or an NC, CNC or PLC control system, the only important thing is the final result of the grinding quality.
