Circular Saw Grinder Guide

Circular saws and band saws are very popular in the metal and wood processing industry due to their ease of use and maintenance. For all machining processes using surface contact, unless uses a laser system or other similar non-contact mechanism as cutting tool, tool wear is a common physical phenomenon.

As we all know, tool grinding is a common and regular task in metal processing factories. For example, there are two main types of sawing machines in the metalworking industry, and both types require saw blades. That is to say, both the band saw and the circular saw are processing machines that need to grind their saw blades regularly. Unlike a band saw, a circular saw uses a circular cutter to perform a sawing process instead of a saw band, which leads to its different processing features from a band saw. In addition to sawing machines, tools and cutters for turning, milling and boring all require regular grinding, so CNC tools and cutter grinders are essential for every manufacturing or processing plant.

Circular Sawing & Grinding

The grinding process of circular saw blades is complicated. This is because a circular saw is a power saw that uses toothed or abrasive disc sets or saw blades to cut different materials through a rotary motion that rotates around an arbor. In similar applications, hole saws and circular saws also use rotary motion, but are different from circular saws. The circular saw can also be used to cut the saw blade itself.

Circular saws were invented in the late 18th century and were commonly used in American sawmills by the mid-19th century. With the application of these sawing machines in the industry, people began to know how to properly maintain them. Technically, unless a non-contact cutting machine such as a laser device is used, no tool can maintain its sharpness forever, so after a period of use, the tool unit needs to be recalibrated.

Tool and cutter grinder is very much needed in all metal processing and manufacturing plants to support their main businesses such as milling, turning, drilling, boring and sawing. Unlike a circular saw, a band saw is a power saw with a long and sharp blade. The blade consists of a continuous toothed metal band stretched between the wheels to cut the work piece. Band saws are suitable for metal processing and wood processing, but can also be used for cutting other materials and work pieces. In fact, the advantages of band saws include uniform cutting movement due to uniformly distributed tooth loads, and the ability to cut irregular or curved shapes like a jig saw. In addition, the minimum radius of the curve is determined by the width of the saw band and the curve. Based on this, the grinding of the saw blade must be performed uniformly and precisely to prevent premature damage of the saw teeth. Therefore, the service life of the saw blade is related to the grinding ability of the tool grinder.

The grinding and sharpening of all cutters are essential. The technique of how to shape the blade or disc into the ideal shape is a task that all machine tool users need to understand based on their work experience. It will become a variable that affects the grinding performance. Especially when the disc is used as the cutting tool of the circular saw, all sharpening variables should be carefully considered and calculated to achieve excellent output.

Profiling

If the profiling of the grinding is not performed professionally, unnecessary scratches and grooves will be formed, and excessive chip evacuation may make the tooth groove hard, which is an issue that must be faced rigorously. In addition to grinding in tool grinding, subsequent surface treatment is also important. Metal burrs are raised edges or small pieces of material that still adhere to the work piece after rough grinding, which will affect the tool performance. Therefore, removing those burrs is as important as grinding. In short, tool grinding and dressing can help industrial users extend the life of blades and reduce other unnecessary losses and costs. A good saw blade grinder can help business owners control costs while maintaining working accuracy.
