Vertical Surface Grinder

Vertical surface grinding machine is a machine tool that plays an important role in the metal processing industry. In grinding machines field, cylindrical grinding and roll grinding are different from surface grinding. The grinding head moves down to the work piece, and the work piece can move back and forth. The table is usually equipped with controllable magnetic stock or vacuum chuck. The most common surface grinder has a grinding wheel that rotates along a horizontal axis and grinds by the periphery of the grinding wheel.
Surface grinders remove large amounts of material and grind on flat surfaces with obvious spiral grinding marks. It can also be used to make and sharpen metal stamping dies, flat shear blades, fixture bases or any flat surfaces. Surface grinders can be manually or CNC controlled operated.

Advantages of vertical structure

The surface grinders with vertical alignment can help to clamp the work piece more firmly on the work table with the help of gravity pulling force. Once the clamping system is designed horizontally, the effect will be different, and the clamping system (such as claws, cylinders, chucks or other magnetic equipment) will face different challenge.

Computerized controlled cutting

CNC cutting must not only be capable of turning, milling, drilling, but also grinding. Therefore, the operating system of CNC machine tools is often equipped with humanized operation panels, which can accurately display various processing tasks. The friendly interface not only ensures precise operation, but also makes the process more efficient. With the latest programming technology, the grinder operator only needs to call the set cutting program from the system storage, and the machine will automatically process.

In Taiwan, there are many cutting-edge grinder suppliers who provide comprehensive grinding solutions for users around the world, including grinding machine equipped with CNC control systems. Many of these Taiwanese grinder manufacturers are experienced professionals who understand technical issues such as grinding accuracy and efficiency better than their customers.

Among all grinding technologies (such as cylindrical grinding, internal grinding, centerless grinding), surface grinding is one of the most common processing methods in the industry, and its concept can be extended to various grinding method. Programmed grinding is a finishing process that uses a rotating grinding wheel to smooth the surface of metallic or non-metallic materials. In detail, under CNC control, the grinding wheel is controlled to remove impurities and burrs on the surface of the work piece to achieve a fine and smooth state of the surface.

Engineering of cutting route

Through the design and programming of the machine engineer in advance, the grinding task can achieve the expected result.

In simple terms, the surface grinder is composed of grinding wheel, work piece holding device and reciprocating table. During the processing, the fixture will fix the work piece in the proper position, and there are two types of clamping methods according to the fixture:

One is a ferromagnetic piece, which uses a magnetic chuck to fix the work piece in place, and the other is a vacuum or mechanical method. The clamping mechanism is essential to the entire processing process. A solid and precise work piece positioning can accurately complete all processing tasks and obtain an ideal output.

Key factors in grinding

The factors to be considered in surface grinding also include the material of the grinding wheel and the material of the work piece. Common work piece materials include aluminum, brass, steel, cast iron, and mild steel. Some of them are more stable and will not corrode and adhere to the grinding wheel during processing, while some may corrode during the processing and then adhere to the surface of the grinding wheel. This kind of material will be less suitable for multi-step processing.

On the other hand, the grinding wheel can be of various shapes. Machine operators can dress wheels for specific grinding requirement. It is worth noting that in the surface grinding process, the shape of the grinding wheel will affect the reverse shape of the work piece, so the operator must always pay attention to the change in the shape of the work piece in order to immediately dress the grinding wheel to maintain the grinding accuracy.

In the market, surface grinding, internal grinding and external grinding are the three most commonly used grinding methods in the industrial field. Other grinding methods include roller grinding and centerless grinding.

Vertical surface grinding machine today is usually controlled by programming and can be modified by machine users according to different processing needs. The control system of the CNC machine tool is equipped with a humanized operation panel, which can accurately display the grinding movement, and can provide great convenience for machine users in different processing conditions.
