6 Axis Tool Grinder Guide

6 axis tool grinders is the grinding machine with multiple movable axes. It is also called six axis tool grinders that can grind tools with specific axis designs. It is recognized as a six axis grinder in the grinding machine category and contains six movable axes at the same time. The design of mechanism is also similar to the de-burring in some extend.

In the metal working process, metal burrs are raised edge or small pieces of materials that remains attached to a work piece after a modification process. They are not ideal to the performance of the work pieces. The mechanism of removing those un-wanted edges is considered very important. It is usually removed with a de-burring tool at first and later by the machine for refining.

Grinding mechanism

Many grinding mechanism is just like de-burring, and vice versa. Most de-burring process is conducted by the grinding mechanism. The essential definition of grinding is that this is one of the power tools or machine tools utilized for grinding mechanism. This is a type of machining using an abrasive wheel as the cutting tool for processing.

Each grain of the abrasive on the wheel's surface cuts a small chip from the work piece through shear deformation. Grinding is adopted to finish work pieces that must show high surface quality and high accuracy of profiles and dimensions. Because the accuracy in dimensions in grinding is generally of the order around 0.000025 mm. In most applications, it tends to be a finishing operation. It removes comparatively little metals, about 0.25 to 0.50 mm depth. There are a few of grinding machine constructions, such as belt grinders, bench grinders, cylindrical grinders, surface grinders, tool grinders, jig grinders, gear grinders, center grinders, die grinders, and angle grinders.

Tooling and Burrs

For metal machining to be done well, all the tooling units need to be processed, and metal burrs are not ideal to the performance of the work pieces. The mechanism of removing those un-wanted edges is considered very important. How to deal with the tooling system is also a serious in-house issue for manufacturers. Tool grinding is a common in-plant operation, and there are mainly two kinds of sawing machines in the metal working industry and both types need their saws to be ground. So both band sawing machine and circular sawing machines are saw blade users that need their saw blades to be ground after a certain period of sawing. Not similar to band sawing machine, circular sawing machine utilizes circular tools to conduct sawing procedure rather than sawing bands to achieve the cutting goals. This leads to other machining features that are different from band sawing mechanism in general.

Traditional Point of View

The process for circular and band sawing blades may be little bit different. Circular sawing machine is a powered saw that uses a toothed or abrasive disc set or blade to cut different materials by a rotary motion spinning around an arbor. Similarly, a hole saw and ring saw also utilize a rotary motion but are different from a circular saw. To be precise, circular sawing machines may also be loosely used for the blade itself. Circular saws were invented in the late 18th century. They were used in sawmills in the USA by the middle of the 19th century due to the growth of industry over agricultural sectors then. After a series of usages of the cutting tools, no tools can keep its sharpness without further sharpening, unless it’s a laser device or other non-contact devices. However, this equipment still needs to be re-calibrated after times of usages. Tool grinding is so much needed in all the relevant working circumstances, supporting milling, turning, and drilling, boring, and sawing tools. For the last part, band sawing is the heart of the present article.

Besides sawing tools, small tool and cutter grinders are also applied to grind the turning tools, milling tools, drilling tools, and many other machining cutters just like the case of sawing machines. Onsite operators need to observe their cutting tools carefully in order to know when to uninstall the cutting tools and have those items well repaired or ground. Only with this process, the processing of turning, milling, and boring, drilling, sawing, and other types of machining can be carried on with an ideal setting as expected in the planning progress.
