Chucker Lathe Guide

In the definition of a conventional lathe machine, a chucker lathe is a lathe without a tailstock. It may or may not have through holes, but it is still a turning machine by its structure.

The layout of lathes is mostly horizontal. The horizontal turning model is the oldest model and has been the most widely used in the industrial field. The horizontal structure makes the turning machine easy to use and maintain, so it has a wider range of applications in many industries. For lathe users, there is no distinction between horizontal lathes and vertical lathes. They only need to make a choice based on actual machining requirements.

The development of power turrets, live tools, automatic pallet changers, and the 4th axis is the current popular trend, and lathes equipped with these accessories can have versatility. In order to make better use of these accessories, the turning machine with milling function is changed to a turning center, that is, a turning and milling center, which is very different from ordinary turning machines in many aspects.

Chucker and Tailstock

When the workpiece of the lathe is too long to maintain straightness, the use of a tailstock is very useful for keeping the long workpiece straight because it provides support for the end of the workpiece. But not all workpieces are so long. Many workpieces may be short and light. Therefore, it is more economical and faster to use a chucker lathe.

Among all types of lathes, the CNC lathe for general purposes is a common and popular turning model. It is a traditional and conservative model that can handle most turning tasks for processing plants. It is widely used in industrial fields. There are neither standards nor restrictions on the design and specifications of the chucker lathe. Generally speaking, either a horizontal or vertical structure is possible, and the former is more popular in the industry.

Regarding the classification of general turning machines, like CNC turning machines, there are two main types. One of them is a vertical turning machine and the other is a horizontal turning machine. In a vertical turning machine, the workpiece is fixed vertically, and the installation direction of the cutting tool is the same, so the machining is carried out vertically. In this arrangement, compared with a horizontal lathe, the clamping mechanism will be more stable due to gravity. Manufacturers of vertical turning machines usually turn their vertical lathes into advanced processing equipment for users in various industrial fields, such as the automotive industry, aerospace sector, sports equipment application, and other fields with the larger size workpiece.

Simplicity in Clamping

When it comes to mechanical structure, simplicity is the best policy. In addition, the vertical clamping mechanism can be realized by the belt-driven way, and some can be other types of drive mechanisms. Either way can play the role of the gravity well.

Like other milling machines and machining centers, lathes can also be equipped with power tools driven by servo motors or simply conventional motors as well as tool magazines to improve their machining functionality and versatility, thereby providing processing plants with wider processing possibilities and optimized production lines.

The power turret is a standard accessory of many modern CNC turning machines and one of the most important attachments for CNC lathe users. Taiwanese suppliers have aimed at this business and developed much excellent power turret and power tools to support the needs of global lathe users. For modern machining, the power turret is one of the most important keys to turning machines. Many power turrets are driven by a single motor with a servo function, which can ensure the best processing results and save energy. At the same time, they can also provide high rigidity for the workpiece, thereby providing ideal cutting capability.

In addition, tool magazines and automatic tool changers (ATC) are also the best-selling products of Taiwan's machine tool accessories suppliers. Taiwan's tool magazine and automatic tool change system can provide the best tool change time according to the customer's cycle time engineering.
