Desktop CNC Lathe

In the inventory of lathe machines, desktop CNC lathe, or say, the bench lathe machine is usually convenient for industrial users to carry on anywhere. This means that the critical function of a bench lathe is its convenient mobility.

The desktop lathe can be controlled manually, by a CNC system, or even by NC programming. Like the conventional lathe, the bench lathe rotates the workpiece on the rotating axis to perform machining operations on a supportive bench, and the machine is easy to move for different purposes. These machining tasks include cutting, knurling, grinding, and turning. Some other CNC machines are also controlled by computer programs.

Two Inventories of Desktop CNC Lathe

Under normal circumstances, desktop turning machines are divided into two main types according to the way the workpiece is clamped, namely, the vertical desktop lathe and the horizontal desktop lathe machines.

In a vertical desktop lathe, the workpiece is clamped vertically and the cutting tools are installed in the same direction, so the machining process is carried out vertically. In this arrangement, the clamping will be firmer due to the effect of gravity.

Manufacturers of vertical lathes usually extend their vertical lathes into first-class processing equipment for machine users who pursue high precision. Common applications include the automotive industry, aerospace, sports equipment manufacturing, and other large and heavy workpiece processing tasks.

The spindle of the vertical lathe CNC machines is located behind the chuck. The spindles can be belt-driven, or they can be equipped with other types of driving mechanisms. Like other milling machines and machining centers, turning lathes can also be equipped with power tools and tool magazines to improve their functionality and versatility and provide industrial users with greater processing possibilities.

The power turret is a modern standard accessory for many computer numerical control (CNC) turning machines, and one of the most important accessories for users of CNC desktop lathes. Many Asian suppliers are committed to this business and have developed many well-known power turrets and power tools to meet the needs of global lathe users. Many power turrets are driven by single or double motor(s) with servo features, which can ensure the best processing quality and save the best energy consumption for business owners.

In addition to power turrets, tool magazines and automatic tool changers (ATC) are the best-selling products of many Asian machine tool accessory manufacturers. Their tool magazine and ATC system can offer the optimal T to T time to customers based on their production cycle time engineering, thereby helping manufacturers meet various order requirements.

Compared with global competitors, Taiwanese manufacturers have a better understanding of how to provide global customers with the best blueprint planning services based on local conditions. They can also update and upgrade existing machine tools and accessories in the factory to meet new processing needs.

Chucks and Cylinders

The headstock, spindle, chuck, and hydraulic cylinder have also been well developed in the machine tool industry. Together with CNC turning machines, a series of lathe products and accessories are widely distributed in different industrial fields and applications all over the world.

The horizontal bench lathe is a mature design that has been developed for a period of time and has been widely used for more than two centuries. It is still the most suitable machine tool for most turning tasks. Its horizontal characteristics make the machine easy to use and maintain, and its structure is suitable for various processing purposes and conditions, whether it is a flatbed or a slant bed lathe.

For machine tool users, there is no absolute answer to the choice between a horizontal lathe and a vertical lathe. They only need to choose the best solution based on their working conditions and production plans. For the trend of bench lathes, automation is important in the industry, because today's industry is undergoing rapid transformation. In the field of automation and 3C consumables and electrical appliances, bench lathe machines are widely used to process tiny workpieces. Therefore, processing plants are more inclined to purchase machining centers with robotic arm accessories to prepare for a wider range of uses.
