Micro Machining Centers Guide

In the application of EDM machine tools (electrical discharge machining), many industries require high precision EDM micromachining to achieve micron-level tolerances. Considering this practical application, the establishment of a CNC micro machining center provided solutions and engineering services that met these strict standards. Many high precision micro machining centers are equipped with advanced spindle temperature control functions, unique EDM advancements, and rigid mechanical structures. They are capable of high-speed machining and have excellent accuracy repeatability.

Look into the CNC micro machining center, the history of wire cut EDM machines began in the late 1960s. The purpose is to make tools and dies from hardened steel. The earliest CNC machine tool was the conversion of a punched-tap vertical milling machine. In the late 1960s, the Soviet Union manufactured the first commercial CNC machine; it was a wire-cut EDM machine.

For the most generally accepted point of view, the term CNC micromachining refers to the process of using tools with a diameter of fewer than 0.015 inches, and the tolerances also meet specific standards. This type of machinery is called CNC micro machining center. To achieve certain precision micromachining, the use of small diameter tools requires a particular spindle speed, and the machine should be rather precise.

Variations of Micromachining

In the industrial field of metal processing, there are many ways to achieve high precision micromachining. There are two main methods: the first is EDM or CNC micro machining center, and the other is the more traditional metal-to-metal cutting process. Either way, the customer's demand for workpiece results is the same, so manufacturers must deal with different processing issues to keep up with processing standards and actual conditions.

Laser Technology and Micromachining

Machining is a broad concept in the metalworking industry that includes cutting, drilling, knurling, deformation, sanding, turning, milling, and more. In addition to the above two technologies and methods, other machinery suppliers provide other micromachining methods, such as subcontracted micro-drilling based on laser micro-hole drilling. Now, laser technology is very mature and has been used in various industrial applications.

In a CNC micro machining center, the laser is a device. It is a device that emits light according to the electromagnetic radiation of stimulated radiation through an optical amplification process. The term "laser" derives from light amplification caused by the emission of stimulated radiation. The first laser was built in Hughes Research Laboratory in the 1960s. It is created based on the theoretical work of Charles Hard Townes and Arthur Leonard Schawlow. What distinguishes the laser from other light sources is that the light emitted by the laser is coherent. The spatial coherence allows the laser to focus on a narrow position to which it is used for laser cutting and lithography printing.

In short, laser coherence is different from other light sources. Spatial coherence usually presents in the following way: the output is a narrow beam, limited by diffraction, and the laser beam can be focused on a relatively small point, thus providing a very high irradiance. Or their divergence is so scarce that they can concentrate their power over a long distance.

Time coherence implies a single frequency polarized wave whose phase lies at a relatively large distance along the beam. The light beam, generated by heat or other incoherent light sources, has an instantaneous amplitude and phase, which varies randomly concerning time and position; therefore, the coherence length is short.

The Epic Change: Laser Technology and EDM Processing

After the invention of laser technology, the structure of metal processing and the ways people use energy have changed. The metal cutting can be completed faster in a short time, without other tool wear problems and other traditional tool problems. Therefore, to keep up with this innovative technology, the corresponding management has also been improved.

EDM is an invention that appeared in the 20th century. In the metal processing industry, it is also known as spark machining, spark eroding, burning, die sinking, wire burning, or wire erosion. CNC micro machining center uses sparks to cut the target shape, and that is why it is also called spark machining. During processing, excess material is removed from the workpiece through a series of rapidly circulating currents.

In an EDM metalworking process, two kinds of electrodes are used; one is the tool electrode, and the other the workpiece electrode. The machining process has to do with the tools and workpieces that will not touch. Today, there are many types of CNC micro machining centers. CNC micro machining centers are used to manufacture household appliances, filters, electronic consumables, and other smaller-sized workpieces.

Micromachining and Workpiece

As modern engineering science progresses, it has been observed that many artifacts are getting smaller compared to the past. This trend makes it a lot more complicated to achieve the desired goal in a metalworking process. To this end, the CNC micro machining center is an effective solution, which can help industrial manufacturers achieve the expected precision and accuracy.
