The term tester tube and tube tester is the professional names that describe the electronic facilities that are designed and developed to test certain characteristics and features of the vacuum tubes, that are, the thermionic valves.
In the pipe and tube development history, tube testers was evolved along the way with the vacuum tube objects in order to satisfy the demands of the existing era and eventually the progression was ended with the tube era then.
The innovation of the tube testers was due to the war. During the World War One, the first tube testers were structurally simple and were designed for some specific tube objects for the use in the battle fields as it was necessary. The men who invented this facility were radio operators because they need to test the tubes of their communication equipment more easily during the combat time. In the human civilization, many innovations and technologies were once invented during the war times due to the many serious demands from the environment, such as the atomic technology was once a very symbolic case that demonstrates the great potential within scientists and people. The another case was the innovation of tank, which was also a great metal working creation of hollow space just like the metal tube and pipe objects in the industry.
Today, as the evolutions of the tube testing on tester tubes are diversified into various kinds of fields, there is no common and primary direction for the tester tube operation guide. But there is the simplest principle to follow. For the operation of the tester tube, the most basic tester tube is the filament continuity tester model. This tester tube model is often designed with a neon based lamp, which is connected in series with the filament and a current limiting resistance thing that is fed straight from the mains basically. This statement is not expected to be a hundred percent applicable to all the basic tester tube models since as we have illustrated, there are many models developed in the market, but the primary operational mechanisms of the tester tubes are roughly the same.
Besides the most fundamental and the simplest checking mechanism, there is another one. This one is referred to as tube checker. This one could be recognized as also simple too, but is slightly harder for a little bit. After the filament continuity inspection, tubes are utilized as one low power rectifier object equipped with all the other elements rather than filament works as connections that united altogether as the anode part at the fraction of the ordinary emission. This part is sometimes mistaken as emission tester but it is not.
The reason why people may mistakenly refer to this one as emission tester is because of the fact that this is a crude inspection of the emission in the straight forward heated types. However, if one consider emission tester redundant, it is wrong. Emission tester could be considered as the third simplest one that is lay behind those two we have just mentioned and explained. The emission tester treats any tube like a diode with the careful manner that uniting the cathode to the ground, and all grinds and plates to the b plus voltage. This feeds the filament with the appropriate voltage.
Tester tubes are similar to dial indicators in a certain level that both are the basic and fundamental inspection measurement measures that can help users to have a clear look of the rough data information before they go for further detail inspection. A dial indicator is a measuring device which is one of the most primary measuring tools utilized in the precision manufacturing process. The effect is just like the tester tube in the industrial sector.
For the application cases, in the engine building, they are typically used to measure deck clearances, crankshaft thrust and straightness. Lifter travel and other measurements that involve the distance between two surfaces or small amounts of component travel are also common in the dial indicator inventory. It is noteworthy that, within the field of manufacturing industry, all these basic inspection devices are fundamental to the manufacturers as onsite workers need them to do the first step inspection before they can handle the work in process to the next level in the production lines. Although these little widgets are small, they are playing big roles in the industrial manufacturing sector to every worker.
