Coiling Machine Guide

The coiling machine is very similar to the winding machine. They both work to wrap strings, wires, cords, tapes, or strip onto a central roller, usually a spool or a bobbin. After reading this article, you will walk away with the knowledge of how the coiling machine works.

How does the Coiling Machine Work?

There are two main options for the central roller: the round bar roller and the square bar roller. Round bars help increase the rolling speed, while square bars can supply greater torque power. As the roller coils, the edge sensor mounted on the adjustable slides detects the fullness of the roller. The slides help the roller accommodate strips with different widths. The faster the roller, the more sensitive the sensor should be.

In the metalworking industry, coiling is defined as the rolling of metal materials into specific forms for further usages, such as spring coils. The coiling machine mainly rolls metal wires and sheet metal. These coils are rolled into inventory and will then be uncoiled for further processing when required. Below we explore the common types and applications of coiling machines.

Spring Coiling

Spring coiling is important across various industries, such as automobiles, motorcycles, electronic consumables, and more. The spring coiler is not the machine that wraps wires but produces coil springs. A coil spring is a mechanical part that stores and releases energy. It can absorb shocks or maintain support between contact surfaces.

The material of the coil spring varies based on its end application. For example, heavy-duty machinery requires rigid springs and so they are usually made of thicker metal wires. Taiwanese spring coiling machines are welcomed by users all over the world because of their cost-effectiveness and productivity.

Cut-to-length Line

A cut-to-length (CLT) production line usually involves the use of a coiling machine. In the sheet metal industry, fixed-length cutting is a method of making flat rectangular blanks from metal sheet coils. The CLT line uncoils the sheet materials, straightens or flattens them, and then cuts them to the desired length. Some production lines also have devices that stack the cut materials together for easy storage or transportation.

Many suppliers use roller leveling technology to stretch and compress materials. This method significantly improves flatness and material stability, thereby ensuring the accuracy of the final product.

Conclusion

The coiling machine plays an important role in various production lines and manufacturing plants throughout the industry. During the metal forming procedure, the preliminary step is very important. It can determine the final quality of punching, pressing, forging, or other metal forming processes. The feeding device will give the required materials to the main forming machine to form metal products with a specific shape. As technology progresses, coiling processes will eventually be enhanced to a very accurate level compared with the present.
