Circular Sawing Machine Guide

What Is a Circular Sawing Machine?

A circular sawing machine utilizes circular saw blades to conduct the sawing procedure. The circular saw is used to cut large or thick workpieces into smaller pieces, in order for proceeding with the following precision machining process. The materials available for being cut with circular saws may be metal, plastic, or wood workpieces. This kind of sawing machine not only helps separate the workpieces for the required works but also facilitates the smoothness of the operation of the required works.

Simply speaking, the function of sawing machines is to cut the workpieces. While how the sawing blades are cut and how the cuts are presented are determined by the choices of different types of sawing machines. The most common two types must be the band saws and the circular saws. The former uses long blade strips to cut relatively larger workpieces, while the latter is widely applied for the smaller scale cutting requirements.

One of the reasons why some choose circular saws over band saws is the versatility they have. In addition to conducting a smaller scale cutting technique, these devices are also able to deal with almost all the tasks when automation is integrated into the procedure. In other words, circular saws can be both manually or automatically operated. The manually operated saws are perfect for the general cutting procedure for smaller targets, while the automatic form can handle a larger scale of works and maintain the product quality at the same time.

What are the main components?

Circular saws usually come in handheld devices, so the entire machines are portable. In other words, these machines are able to be transferred to different workplaces instead of mounted on the same one. This helps enhance the flexibility of applying the cutting function if circular saws are available for the required tasks.

● Sawing blade

The sawing blade is the cutter of the machine. As the name implies, this blade comes in circular form and consists of a center plate surrounded by the teeth. The number and configuration of the teeth differ from one sawing blade to another depending on the target materials they are supposed to cut.

● Blade guard

The blade guard is set above the sawing blade, which is used to prevent the sawing blade that rotates at a high speed from posing threat to the operator.

● Handle

The handle is arranged on the side of the machine, which is supposed to be held by the operator when the machine is in use. By holding the handle during operation, the circular saw can be ensured stable and result in the optimal accuracy of the cutting process.

● Shoe

The shoe comes in a rectangular plate with a flat surface, which acts as the security between the machine and workpiece, and is also the part that positions the machine in place.

The Significance of the Sawing Blades

For circular saws, how the sawing blades are designed determines how the cuts are presented. Despite the fixed circular configuration, the differences between the size of the plate and the density of the teeth contribute to different applications these machines are available for.

● Size of the plate

When the sawing blade is attached to a circular saw, only part of the blade is shown to perform the cutting function. The bigger the plate is, the deeper it can cut through the workpiece. In contrast, the smaller plate produces shallow cuts. Therefore, before deciding to buy a circular saw, make sure the size of the plate is suitable for your requirement of works.

● The density of the teeth

The density of the teeth determines the speed of the cut and the material of the workpiece. The more teeth a sawing blade has, which refers to the denser the teeth are, the circular saw cuts faster. The fewer the number of teeth, the slower the machine cuts. Besides, the sawing blade with more teeth is suitable for finer materials because it performs more precise cuts. In comparison, the one with fewer teeth is often applied for cutting tougher materials.

How Does a Circular Sawing Machine Work?

To use a circular sawing machine to cut the target workpiece, the most important things to consider are the sharpness and position. Before turning on the machine and allowing the sawing blades to rotate, make sure the blade is sharp enough so that it would be able to produce precise and accurate cuts. In addition, make use of the adjustment on the machine to adjust the angle and depth of the blade. Once the workpiece is clamped firmly, it can be cut from the right part without deformation.
