So many things in our life are made of metals. Being malleable and ductile means that we can use the metals to build a lot of products the way we like. We can see the metal water bottles or metal utensils in the retail stores. It is also very prevalent to see the metal structure of the building, such as the metal windows, the metal stairs, and the metal doors. Even the scaffolding which is used as a structure for the building are made of metal. However, metals do not just connect themselves to form a structure. People have to find a way to assemble them. This is where the process of welding comes in. In order for welding to take place, we need the welder. There is one special welder I want to discuss today, the capacitor spot welder.
Before we start discussing what a capacitor spot welder is, we first need to understand what a capacitor is. A capacitor is a device designed to store electrical energy in an electric field. Owing to the fact that the capacitor has the ability to store the electric energy when separated from its charging circuit, it is sometime used as a device like a temporary battery, or as a rechargeable energy storage system.
Now that we know what the capacitor is, we can now discuss the concept of spot welding before we move onto the capacitor spot welder. The process of spot welding is sometimes referred to as the resistance spot welding. It is mostly utilized to join two or more metal sheets by applying the pressure and heat generated from an electric current to the area at which the process of welding takes place.
Spot welding is one of the oldest welding techniques. It does not require any filler material to aid the process of welding two or more sheets of metal together. Shaped alloy copper electrodes are vital for the process of the spot welding. The process begins as we use the shaped alloy copper electrodes to convey the electrical current through the weld piece. In this process, the pressure and heat will be applied to the weld area. The heat and pressure will cause the material to melt and in turns fusing the separated parts together. After the parts are fused together, the electric current can then be turned off. Even when the electric current is turned off, the pressure from the electrodes still remains. The reason to choose copper as the material to make the electrodes is that the copper has relatively high thermal conductivity, and the electrical resistance of copper is not so high compared to the other types of metals. This way, the copper made electrodes can make sure the heat is generated in a more desirable way in the work pieces instead of the electrodes.
Now that we understand the basic concept of the process of spot welding and what the capacitor is, we can now move on to the main discussion of today, the capacitor spot welder. The capacitor spot welder is a type of welder which utilized the technique of spot welding to weld the piece together for the capacitor. The capacitive spot welders have several noticeable advantages over the other types of the welder. As the process of welding begins, the weld nugget will be formed in a relatively short time.
A capacitor spot welder has the ability to allow energy to be released at a very fast speed, along with the large peak currents. Within the capacitor spot welder, there is an area called the heat affected zone. This is the place where the rapid change of the heating and cooling temperature causes the metal to transform. Owing to the fact that the capacitor spot welder has a discharge rate which is fast, it can also weld the materials which have the electrically and thermally conductive ability, such as the copper or aluminum. One of the most notable traits of the capacitive spot welders is its ability to continually deliver the process of welding even when the line voltage begins to fluctuate or out. Because they can store the weld energy before use.
